Search for Professional Fundraisers

Professional fundraisers are for-profit companies that charities use to solicit donations or assist in soliciting donations. If a charity is using a professional fundraiser, the fundraiser typically gets a “cut” of each donation made by the public. This fundraising fee reduces the amount that goes to the charity. You should determine if a charity uses a professional fundraiser. Professional fundraisers are required to register with the Attorney General’s Office. You may use the form below to search for professional fundraisers registered in Minnesota.

Please Note: If you are having difficulty finding a professional fundraiser, you may wish to use fewer search terms or only part of the professional fundraiser’s name to obtain a broader range of results. For example, if you cannot find a professional fundraiser named “Big Corporation Professional Fundraiser,” you may wish to search for only the term “Big” to expand your search.

How to Learn More About a Professional Fundraiser

If you find the professional fundraiser you are looking for, then it is currently registered in Minnesota.  Be aware, however, that just because a professional fundraiser is registered does not necessarily mean the Attorney General’s Office has approved of its practices.  Registered professional fundraisers must file materials every year that contain information about their operations, copies of all contracts they have entered into with charities, and financial reports describing their activities if they solicit on behalf of a charity.  While copies of these documents are not currently available online, the documents are public and you can request copies by calling the Charities Division of the Minnesota Attorney General’s Office at (651) 757-1496 or (800) 657-3787.  If you do not find the professional fundraiser you are looking, it may not be registered in Minnesota.  Failing to register with the Attorney General’s Office can be a red flag, and you should be cautious in deciding whether to donate to a charity through an unregistered professional fundraiser.
