Jacory Dante McCalpin sentenced to more than 106 years after conviction by jury on 27 counts of criminal sexual conduct and stalking

McCalpin received 1,276-month sentence following multiple sexual assaults between July 2022 and December 2023

June 30, 2026 (SAINT PAUL) — Today, a Chippewa County court sentenced Jacory Dante McCalpin to 1,276 months in prison for multiple violent sexual assaults against a victim, who was treated with particular cruelty and was, at times, particularly vulnerable. A jury convicted McCalpin of all 27 charges—including multiple counts of 1st Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct and Stalking on April 27, 2026. The jury also found aggravating facts on 21 of the 27 counts.

For two and a half years between July 2022 and December 2023, McCalpin sexually and physically assaulted the victim. McCalpin regularly recorded the assaults and used the videos as blackmail to force the victim to perform additional sex acts.

Attorney General Ellison’s office prosecuted McCalpin upon a referral from Chippewa County Attorney Matthew Haugen under Minnesota Statutes section 8.01, which provides, “Upon request of the county attorney, the attorney general shall appear in court in such criminal cases as the attorney general deems proper.” The authority vested in the Minnesota Attorney General’s Office is primarily civil.  Aside from referrals submitted under section 8.01 and Medicaid fraud, the Minnesota Attorney General’s Office does not have prosecuting authority over most criminal acts. That authority generally rests with city and county attorneys.

“The cruelty and inhumanity of McCalpin’s criminal conduct is horrifying,” said Attorney General Ellison. “I spent years working to expand my office’s Criminal Division so we would have the resources to prosecute cases like this and hold people like McCalpin accountable for inflicting so much harm on their fellow Minnesotans. I’m praying the victim in this case is receiving the help, care, and support needed to heal after such traumatic events.”

The Montevideo Police Department, with assistance from the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, investigated this crime.
