Mental Health with a Focus on Trauma in the Legal Profession and in the Practice of Law
Date: | Thursday, May 22, 2025 |
Time: | 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. |
Format: | Live Webinar (virtual) |
Location: | Online via WebEx |
Description: | Legal professionals are exposed to experiences that can lead to higher stress and greater consequences than those in many other careers. Individual and societal circumstances may exacerbate the stress and the impact of traumatic exposure. There is a clearly recognized continuum where unresolved chronic stress becomes a predictor for substance use problems and mental illness, particularly depression and anxiety. By understanding this continuum, the impact of our exposure to trauma, and the facts about addiction and mental illness, lawyers can reduce their risk and, hopefully, get help earlier when there is a mental health, substance use, or related problem.

Sessions will examine the effects of market concentration on grocery costs, price gouging, and notable cases, underscoring the need for stronger regulatory oversight. Attendees will learn about the FTC’s evolving role in protecting consumers and workers, as well as the balance between efficient yet fragile food networks and more resilient, distributed systems. The seminar will also highlight how public health policies and targeted investments can improve access to nutritious food and promote fair competition.
