The Office seeks a trial attorney to join its Tax Division which is housed in the Solicitor General’s Section of the Office.  The attorney’s primary caseload will involve representing the Minnesota Department of Revenue in taxpayer-initiated court cases.  The attorney will also advise and represent the client agency in the collection of all state taxes, including income, withholding, sales and use, lawful gambling, corporate income tax, controlled substance, MnCare tax, petroleum, tobacco taxes and property taxes as well as on a wide range of land matters involving tax forfeiture.

The successful applicant will primarily litigate cases in Minnesota Tax Court and the Minnesota Supreme Court and will advise agency clients.  In this position, the attorney will act as lead counsel in all phases of assigned cases, including pleading, discovery, and trial with minimal oversight.  In addition, the successful applicant will assist and support other attorneys in the division on cases requiring more than one attorney.

This position is eligible for a hybrid work environment (combination of in-office work and telework).

Minimum Qualifications

To be considered at the S2 level, candidates must have at least 6 years of directly related experience. To be considered at the S3 level, candidates must have at least 12 years of directly related experience.
