Job Summary
The Office of Attorney General Keith Ellison has a clear mission: we help Minnesotans afford their lives and live with dignity, safety, and respect. We are a dynamic group of dedicated professionals who choose public service as a calling, and we are actively and intentionally committed to supporting an internal culture that affirms that calling. The Office is one of Minnesota’s largest public law offices and as of 2025, has been recognized as a Star Tribune Top Workplace Minnesota for four years in a row and Top Workplace USA for four years in a row.
The Attorney General’s Consumer Protection efforts serve all Minnesota consumers; however, a significant portion of the Office’s investigations and enforcement actions focus on unlawful business practices that disproportionately impact individuals with limited means, seniors, students, children and youth, and immigrant communities. With the recent passage of a comprehensive consumer data privacy law in Minnesota, this position will play a key role in its implementation through public education, outreach, and enforcement. You will be at the forefront of impactful, forward-looking consumer protection investigations that make a direct and measurable difference in the lives of Minnesotans.
The Minnesota Attorney General’s Office was granted exclusive authority to enforce the Minnesota Consumer Data Privacy Act, which takes effect July 31, 2025. The Office is currently seeking a motivated, knowledgeable, and experienced attorney to join the hardworking team of professionals protecting the consumer and privacy rights of Minnesotans.
A successful candidate will have the opportunity to support the mission of the office by:
- Leading the implementation of Minnesota’s newly enacted consumer data privacy law, Minn. Stat. § 325M.10, et seq. (Minnesota Consumer Data Privacy Act)
- Supporting all aspects of the Consumer Protection Division’s work related to privacy and data security
- Conducting investigations and enforcement actions involving privacy and data security, including working with paralegals and staff
- Contributing to high-impact consumer protection investigations and litigation, particularly in the area of consumer technology
- Advancing the Office’s privacy and data protection initiatives and helping shape its long-term strategy
- Leading efforts to advocate for and protect the privacy rights of Minnesota residents
- Providing legal advice and overseeing enforcement of state and federal privacy laws, including Minnesota consumer protection statutes
- Collaborating with colleagues and external partners at the state and federal level to achieve meaningful outcomes for Minnesota consumers.
This posting may be used to fill multiple positions.
This position is eligible for a hybrid work environment (combination of in-office work and telework).
Minimum Qualifications

- Three years of civil or criminal litigation experience
- Outstanding writing, research, and oral advocacy skills
